Intensive Support Team (IST)
The Widefield School District 3 Intensive Support Team (IST) believes all children are capable of learning. Our mission is to create an educational environment that empowers students to overcome emotional and neurological barriers to learning through collaboration with building-level teams.  Our purpose is to expand knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices to increase access to the general education environment.

At times, learning can be compromised when students display behavior that impacts their ability to absorb information or develop and maintain positive relationships.  Maladaptive behavior is a student's attempt to address an underlying need. Students learn more socially acceptable ways of meeting their needs when provided with direct instruction in appropriate social strategies. In an effort to meet the educational needs of students with emotional and neurological difficulties, Widefield School District 3 has developed a team of educators to act as a resource to building-level special education teams.

The primary goal of the Intensive Support Team is to expand knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices to increase student access to the general education environment.  To this end, Widefield School District 3 utilizes a district-wide collaborative effort, including a liaison from each school, to provide a comprehensive and individualized plan to best identify and address each student's needs. The Intensive Support Team uses research-based strategies to produce positive behavior change. Data is used to guide decision-making regarding interventions and to monitor progression toward measurable goals.
